2============\r
3\r
4This is the README file for the PuTTY installer distribution. If\r
5you're reading this, you've probably just run our installer and\r
6installed PuTTY on your system.\r
7\r
8What should I do next?\r
9----------------------\r
10\r
11If you want to use PuTTY to connect to other computers, or use PSFTP\r
12to transfer files, you should just be able to run them from the\r
13Start menu.\r
14\r
15If you want to use the command-line-only file transfer utility PSCP,\r
b50433b1 16you will probably want to put the PuTTY installation directory on\r
17your PATH. How you do this depends on your version of Windows. On\r
03f1bfaf 18Windows NT, 2000, and XP, you can set it using Control Panel > System;\r
19on Windows 95, 98, and Me, you will need to edit AUTOEXEC.BAT. Consult\r
20your Windows manuals for details.\r

fe7af739 22Some versions of Windows will refuse to run HTML Help files (.CHM)\r
23if they are installed on a network drive. If you have installed\r
24PuTTY on a network drive, you might want to check that the help file\r
25works properly. If not, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896054\r
26for information on how to solve this problem.\r

4e860fdb 28What do I do if it doesn't work?\r
29--------------------------------\r
30\r
31The PuTTY home web site is\r
32\r
33 http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/\r
34\r
35Here you will find our list of known bugs and pending feature\r
36requests. If your problem is not listed in there, or in the FAQ, or\r
37in the manuals, read the Feedback page to find out how to report\r
38bugs to us. PLEASE read the Feedback page carefully: it is there to\r
39save you time as well as us. Do not send us one-line bug reports\r
40telling us `it doesn't work'.\r
